Operational Excellence Engineer – Facility Maintenance (Up to 90% Travel)
Overview The Operational Excellence Engineer supports multiple facilities by driving continuous improvement, safety excellence, and quality performance across maintenance operations. This role requires extensive travel (up to 90%), including multi-week onsite assignments, to conduct operational assessments, lead improvement initiatives, support site startups/transitions, and occasionally serve as acting Facility Manager to ensure operational continuity.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site assessments of maintenance operations, safety compliance, quality standards, and workflow efficiency.
- Lead CI initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, 5S, Kaizen events
- Support startups, customer transitions, and new scope mobilizations, including CMMS setup, asset onboarding, and team training.
- Strengthen site safety practices and regulatory compliance (OSHA, company policies, JHAs, audits).
- Conduct quality checks on maintenance work and support implementation of standardized SOPs and workmanship standards.
- Analyze CMMS data to improve PM compliance, backlog management, labor utilization, and asset reliability.
- Assist with preventive, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance program development.
- Provide temporary Facility Manager coverage, overseeing daily operations, scheduling, vendor management, and customer communication.
- Train and coach technicians and supervisors on SOPs, CI tools, CMMS usage, safety procedures, and quality practices.
- Collaborate with EHS, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and leadership on operational improvement priorities.
Travel Requirements
- Up to 90% travel, including frequent overnight stays.
- Multi-week coverage assignments or startup support may be required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Facilities Management, Industrial Engineering, Operations, or related field (preferred).
- 2–5 years of experience in maintenance operations, facility management, CI, quality
- Lean/Six Sigma certification (Green Belt preferred).
- Strong knowledge of CMMS systems, maintenance best practices, safety standards, and quality processes.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lead in the field, influence without authority, and manage operations during interim FM assignments.
